The observations were carried out in very diverse physical and geographical zones: Volyn Polissia, Male Polissia, Podillia Highlands, the mountain system of the Ukrainian Carpathians, the Transcarpathian Lowlands and others. 0000-0003-4626-9585 Conducting of a field surveys and spreading of questionnaires developed by the society. Digitalizing and extracting of data from the catalogues. Verification (if possible). Identification and confirming of species. Georeferencing. Adding all the collected information to one unified database. Organizing of the dataset according to Darwin Core standards. The dataset represents the results of birds registrations within the territory of western Ukraine for the period starting from 1963 to 1994. The main aim of this dataset is to save the valuable scientific information about birds and make it available for the world's scientific community. This will prevent this data from possible complete destruction and loss in term of war, started by Russian Federation against Ukraine. We are sincerely grateful to NGO "Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group" for mutual cooperation and help in preparing of the dataset, extracting and digitalizing of data from the available catalogues. The vast majority of the material was collected during bird surveys along the shoreline of various reservoirs of both natural and anthropogenic origin. The methods of accounting were chosen depending on the season and weather conditions, the predominant methods were route accounting without fixing the width of the lane and point accounting, in some cases, for rare species, random encounters could be recorded. The coordinates of each meeting were recorded, but not in all cases. In those cases missing the coordinates, the location was estimated based on the description, provided for each single record. In some cases the recorded bird was assigned to a certain territory or to the accounting section and the coordinates of the center of the territory or accounting section were determined. The information provided in the database is not exhaustive. Observations were carried out with the help of optical devices of different multiplicity. Conducting of a field surveys and preparing of the catalogues was made by professional ornithologists. The extragtion and digitalization of data from the catalogues was made by professional stall of NGO "Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group" with more than 5 years of experience. This means that despite rocket attacks, close to the front line, lack of light... Lviv, Kharkiv, Odesa and Melitopol continue to work on publication of scientific archives of the West-Ukrainian Ornithological Society and Azov-Black Sea Ornithological Working Group. Both organizations registered with GBIF and our operators have already handed over the first sets data for publication. And this means that more than 10,000 verified records of bird registrations will appear with open access. The project is supported by ЗMIN Foundation.
