Description
This dataset contains occurrence records of vascular plant species observed on the arena terrace (first floodplain terrace) of the Dnieper River within the boundaries of the Dnipro-Orilsky Nature Reserve (Ukraine). The dataset covers a temporal range from 2013 to 2024 and is based on field surveys and floristic inventories carried out across different seasons. Each record includes geographic coordinates, date of observation, scientific name, and species abundance. The observations were conducted using standardized field methods, including visual identification and manual counting. The surveyed habitat represents a unique aeolian–fluvial sandy system that supports psammophytic vegetation and floristic complexes characteristic of the steppe-Dnieper ecological region. The dataset supports conservation planning, ecological monitoring, and biodiversity research. It documents species composition, spatial distribution, and temporal dynamics of plant communities in a protected area of high ecological value. The taxonomic names were validated using the GBIF Backbone Taxonomy. This dataset contributes to ongoing studies of floristic diversity, habitat transformation, and vegetation dynamics under environmental and anthropogenic pressures in central Ukraine.
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 12,128 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Geographic Coverage
This dataset covers the arena terrace (first above-floodplain terrace) of the Dnieper River valley within the territory of the Dnipro-Orilsky Nature Reserve (Ukraine). The study area is located on the left bank of the Dnieper River, south of the Samara River confluence, and represents a unique complex of sandy habitats with specific floristic composition and high conservation value. The dataset includes georeferenced occurrence records of vascular plant species collected from 2013 to 2024.

Taxonomic Coverage
The dataset includes occurrence records of vascular plant species (Tracheophyta), primarily angiosperms (Magnoliopsida and Liliopsida), representing the flora of sandy habitats within the Dnieper River arena terrace in the Dnipro-Orilsky Nature Reserve (Ukraine). The taxonomic coverage reflects the typical psammophytic vegetation of the Lower Dnieper region, including both native and synanthropic species. Taxonomic identifications were based on standard Ukrainian floristic references and verified using the GBIF Backbone Taxonomy.

Sampling Methods
Plant species occurrences were recorded using standard floristic survey methods. Fieldwork was conducted during the vegetation period across multiple years (2013–2024). The surveys included complete inventories of vascular plant species within fixed-area plots and opportunistic observations in adjacent habitats. Taxonomic identification was carried out in the field and verified using regional floras and taxonomic references. Species names were standardized according to the GBIF backbone taxonomy. Coordinates were recorded using handheld GPS devices with an accuracy of ±5 m.
Study Extent | The study was conducted between 2013 and 2024 on the arena terrace (first alluvial terrace) of the Dnipro River valley within the boundaries of the Dnipro-Oril Nature Reserve, Ukraine. The study area represents a unique combination of sandy habitats and steppe vegetation, which are of high conservation interest. Sampling covered multiple growing seasons and was designed to capture spatial and temporal variability in species composition. |

Method step description:
- 1. Field surveys were conducted annually between 2013 and 2024 during the peak vegetation period. 2. Plant species were identified in the field and verified using standard regional floras. 3. Coordinates of occurrences were recorded using handheld GPS units. 4. Collected data were entered into a structured spreadsheet, including scientific name, date, location, and habitat description. 5. Species names were validated and standardized using the GBIF Backbone Taxonomy via the rgbif R package. 6. Records with unresolved or unaccepted names were flagged and reviewed manually. 7. The final dataset was formatted according to the Darwin Core standard. 8. Quality control procedures included checking for coordinate accuracy, duplicates, and completeness.
