Descrição

The checklist consists of species of Chiroptera from the fauna of Ukraine protected according to Agreement on the Conservation of Populations of European Bats (EUROBATS). This agreement was ratificated by Ukraine in on September 9th 1992. Therefore, according to the documents accompanying the Agreement, these species should be under relevant protection on the territory of Ukraine.

Métodos de Amostragem

Scientific names were manually extracted from the species list indicated on the web sie of the Agreement: https://www.eurobats.org/about_eurobats/protected_bat_species

Área de Estudo The Checklist covers the Chiroptera species found on the entire territory of Ukraine and includes 28 species (rows), fully consistent with the Red Data Book of Ukraine. The species Miniopterus schreibersii is included in the list; however, it is considered extinct in Ukraine and has not been recorded during the last 10 years (with no data available from open-access sources such as GBIF). The last known record originated from Zakarpattia Region in the 1990s, according to published literature sources. In the Red Data Book of Ukraine, the species is assigned the status “extinct.” In accordance with the precautionary principle, and taking into account that the species was abundant at the beginning of the last century, Miniopterus schreibersii remains included in the list. Scientific evidence currently available indicates a lack of convincing proof of the widespread occurrence of Pipistrellus pipistrellus in Ukraine; most previous records of this species are considered to result from misidentifications within the P. pipistrellus species complex.
