Description

This dataset includes information on reliable records of insects and other invertebrate organisms that were highlighted in some sources of scientific literature covering area of three western regions of Ukraine. Some of the records refer to those species included in the Red Data Book of Ukraine.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 2,384 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Geographic Coverage

The dataset covers the entire territory of Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia administrative regions of Ukraine as well as the southern part of Lviv administrative region.

Sampling Methods

To prepare this dataset, verification of scientific sources containing information on insect records in western regions of Ukraine with clear geographical locations or coordinates was carried out. The verification was carried out or the specified data were not published on the GBIF earlier. The data set was created according to the Darwin Core standard, but with the reliable inclusion of information from the specified publications. The coordinates were determined according to the description (if they are not specified in the publications). The following publications were used: 1. Бошко Г. В. Study Extent The dataset consists of records of different groups of invertebrates from the following classes: Insecta, Collembola, Diplopoda, Chromadorea, Gastropoda, Chilopoda, Malacostraca and Clitellata. The territory covered by the obtained records includes Zakarpattia, Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions of Ukraine. All information was take from already published literature resources. The preiod of time covered by the dataset includes relatively recent registrations from 2017 as well as very old data obtained from 1857.
Quality Control The authors of the dataset are fully responsible for correct way of representing the information taken from the literature resources. Authors of original articles are responsindle for the accurate and correct highlighting of the information includin origina ldescriptions of locality, dates and identified species.

Method step description:

  1. Searching of the necessary information in the literature resources.
  2. Choosing those articles containing sufficient ammount of information to be included in the dataset.
  3. Georeferencing according to the information about the locality of record.
  4. Organizing of the dataset according to the Darwin Core standards.
