Description

The dataset comprises biodata on specimens of spider wasps (Hymenoptera: Pompilidae) held in the private collection of A. Kumpanenko. These samples were collected during numerous expeditions and excursions across various habitat types, including both natural and anthropogenic environments, in the Poltava region of Ukraine. The collection spans the period from 2004 to 2022. All specimens are preserved as dry specimens on pins. Identification of insect samples was carried out by A. Kumpanenko.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 256 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Versions

The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Sampling Methods

The dataset includes data on specimens collected from 2004 to 2022. The material on spider wasps was collected during numerous expeditions in across Poltava region of Ukraine. Different entomological methods were used to capture the adults, including sweeping with an air net, collecting separate individuals from flowers, wood, leaves, and other surfaces, using pan traps, trap-nests, and Barber traps. The captured specimens were narcotized in the field with ethylene glycol or preserved directly in 96% ethanol. Various identification keys were employed to identify species within the family Pompilidae. The specimens were typically studied using an MBS-9 microscope. The material is housed in the private collection of A. Kumpanenko.

Study Extent The dataset comprises biodata on specimens of spider wasps (Hymenoptera: Pompilidae) held in the private collection of A. Kumpanenko. All specimens are preserved as dry specimens on pins.
Quality Control The authors are entomologists with extensive experience in the field of study. They are fully responsible for the quality of the data provided within the dataset.

Method step description:

  1. Selection of the sites.
  2. Collection of material in the field.
  3. Mounting of the specimens in the laboratory.
  4. Specimen identification.
  5. Cataloging identified specimens and dataset preparation.
  6. Data checking and cleaning.
  7. Publication of biodata on the GBIF.
