Description

The database contains data on insects, some Lepidoptera families (Pyraloidea superfamily mainly) registered on the territory of the Desniansko-Starohutskyi National Nature Park. The materials were partially included in eight volumes of the Park’ Annals of Nature. The database contains data on the findings of about 100 butterflies species.

Méthodes d'échantillonnage

The main method of collection is a light trap. With the onset of dusk 2 arc-mercury lamps of 250 W were turned on, fixed at a height of 2-2.5 m from the ground surface against white screens. Catching butterflies continued until dawn. Insects were mounted on entomological needles or placed in mattresses for further identification. Some species that are easy to identify were recorded without catching. Butterflies were collected by hand in places where they stay during the day (vegetation, trunks and stumps, fences, walls of buildings, etc.). With this method, some species were found that did not fly to the light, and it was also possible to collect material where it was impossible to use the lamps. Species were identified by external morphological features and genital preparations.

Etendue de l'étude The Desna-Stara Huta National Nature Park (Ukrainian: Деснянсько-Старогутський національний природний парк), also Desniansko-Starohutskyi National Nature Park, covers a middle section of the Desna river in northeastern Ukraine, representing the variety of wetland and mixed forest landscapes of the eastern Polissia region. The Park contains two sections, one - on the Desna river floodplains, the other in the southern region of Bryansk forest on the Russian border. The area is relatively clean ecologically, being clear of the radiological zone and being in a non-industrial region. The Park is in the administrative district of Shostka town (Sumy region). A component of the Park is a Ramsar wetland site of international importance "Desna River Floodplains". It is also component of the Desna Biosphere Reserve, designated in 2009 by the UNESCO Man and Biosphere (MAB) Reserve Programme. The authos expresses his gratitude to the director of the Desna-Stara Huta National Nature Park and to the Park’s security. Also the author is sincerely grateful to the NGO “Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group” for help in placing data in the GBIF system.
