Description

The database includes the findings of 64 species of animals listed in the third edition of the Red Book of Ukraine found in the Medobory nature reserve and adjacent areas.

Sampling Methods

Rare animal species were recorded visually during regular route surveys and observations, insects - also from collections on stationary trap-lines and routes, followed by in-house treatment in accordance with the Program of the Annals of Nature for Reserves and National Nature Parks (https://zakon.rada.gov.ua/rada/show/v465_737-02#n12).

Study Extent The research was conducted in 2009-2020 on the territory of the Medobory Nature Reserve and the surrounding areas (within the Tovtry ridge and adjacent territories). Data on the occurrence of animals listed in Red Book of Ukraine were collected mainly by three mentioned observers. Some of the registrations were recorded as a result of the analysis of observation cards of scientists and employees of the reserve protection service after a thorough check of the information. Studies of bats in 2011-2012 were conducted by Kusnezh O.O., in 2018 - Drebet M.V.
Quality Control The authors are fully responsible for the accuracy of data provided within the dataset.

  2. 2. Species determination, including using the results of the analysis of micro- and macrophotography materials.
  3. 3. Georeferencing of rare species findings recorded by GPS devices and a Lenovo tablet using the Locus Map program.
