Descripción
The dataset contains information on the distribution of amphibians and reptiles mainly in southern Ukraine, the Azov and Black Sea regions, Crimea, the Melitopol region, as well as in some Asian and European countries.
Registros

“Saving Biodiversity Data in Wartime” project aims to contribute to the protection and conservation of biological diversity in Ukraine during and after the war, by collecting, digitalizing and publishing the primary biodiversity data held by Ukrainian scientists and environmentalists in war-affected territories. The project is implemented by Oleksii Marushchak, 2023 Eastern Partnership Civil Society Fellow.

Métodos de muestreo
The dataset includes information on Amphibian and Reptile finds collected by well-known scientists and scientists of the Melitopol Herpetological School (Melitopol) with the participation of the the Department of Zoology at the National Museum of Natural History, NAS of Ukraine (Kyiv). All researchers are proficient in field methods, so data collection and the reliability of species identification are beyond doubt. Each species presented in the dataset has its own field research methods, which were used by the researchers and published in the relevant works. The coordinates of modern finds were determined using GPS, compass applications, and Google maps. Materials of the stock collections were digitised with the refinement of coordinates in Google maps based on the coordination of entries in the field diaries of collectors and primary labels of the stock collection. Information about the finds, time and territory of the research was noted and described directly during the research expeditions.
Área de Estudio | The dataset consists of records of representatives of herpetofauna recorded on the territory of Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and russia in the period from 1971 to 2013. The dataset was created in order to save unique data on records of various herpetofauna observations from Melitopol museum, that at the moment of dataset publishing is occupied by russian invasion forces. |

Control de Calidad | The correct identification of amphibians and reptiles and the quality of the dataset as a whole are guaranteed by extensive experience. I have been researching amphibians and reptiles for more than 25 years, including 15 years of scientific work at the Melitopol Herpetological Laboratory (1996-2010). I have a PhD degree (2006). D. thesis on amphibians of Ukraine. Head, co-executor and consultant of about 20 research topics, developments, projects, including international ones on the study of Amphibians and Reptiles. |
Descripción de la metodología paso a paso:
- Digitisation of the authors' own field diaries since 1996 and records of colleagues since 2005.
- Digitalization of stock collections since 1971.
- Species affiliation was determined independently or according to the available original labels.
- Georeferencing (coordinates were determined using GPS, compass applications, and Google Maps).
- Preparing of the dataset in accordance with the requirements of Darwin Core standards
