Description

The dataset presents 520 records of biodiversity (animals, plants and fungi) made by Dr. Oksana Nekrasova during her field expeditions conducted on the territory of Mykolaiv administrative region of Ukraine as well as several adjacent territories of Odesa, Kirovohrad and Kherson regions. The expeditions took place in the first 3 decades of the XXI century. The dataset includes records of both common and rare species of flora and fauna that are not included in other datasets authored or co-authored by O. Nekrasova. Since military actions took place on some parts of the region and great part of it had restricted access for local inhabitants (some of them were in different ways affected by the war) the collecting and publishing of records of flora and fauna made before the full-scale Russian invasion will contribute to post-war assessment of the war's impact on biodiversity and natural complexes of the region.

Animals were registered during the peaks of activity (mainly from 7 am to 11 pm). Catching of reptiles was performed using a net, a hook or by hand. Photo-documenting was made with the help of Canon photo-camera. Some specimens were photographed from the distance enough to catch the key distinguishing features of the animal on camera, without capturing. For georeferencing of the records, the points of herpetofauna registrations were collected (with the indication of latitude 00.00000 N and longitude 00.00000 E) using the field off-line orientation program Ozi Explorer and Google Earth Pro (Earth version 7.3.3). Visualization of records and creation of maps was carried out in the QGIS program (v.2.181, QGIS Development Team, 2016. QGIS Geographic Information System. Open Source Geospatial Foundation. URL http://qgis.org). The species identification was carried out using methodological materials (Bannikov and Darevsky, 1977). No special permits were needed for recording of the species mentioned in the dataset. The photos of all animals were uploaded to iNaturalist platform choosing "Restricted Access" for each observation in order to avoide duplicating of records with the iNaturalist dataset on GBIF. After the observations were identified by other experts to the level of species, they were inclued in the dataset. The author express sincere gratitude to all people, who helped with the species identification.

Etendue de l'étude The dataset represents records of animals, plants and fungi, made by Dr. Oksana Nekrasova during here field expeditions conducted on the territory of Mykolaiv and adjacent regions in the period from 2008 to 2023. The records in this dataset were not published before and were made by the author with subsequent identification with the help of other experts.
Contrôle qualité All records and species identifications of herpetofauna were made by the author as a herpetologist with more than 30 years of experience of field studies of amphibians and reptiles. Other organisms were uploaded to the iNaturalist portal and were identified to the level of species by narrow specialists with an expert level of knowledge. Only those species, identified and confirmed by relevant specialists were included in the dataset.

Description des étapes de la méthode:

  1. Conducting of field trips.
  2. Photo- and video-documenting of animals, plants and fungi.
  3. Species identification in those cases, when it can be done undoubtedly.
  4. Uploading of the photos and videos to the iNaturalist profile for further identification of species with the help of other zoologists.
  5. Georeferencing.
  6. Organizing of the dataset according to Darwin Core standards.
