說明

The dataset includes a set of lists of plant species indicated in different type of shelterbelts and the edge of an artificial forest in the northern steppe of the right bank of Ukraine. The releves are made by modified Whittakers plant diversity sampling method. The size of plots ranged from 1 (10 plots per 1 m2 each under canopy and 10 plots per 1 m2 on the both sides of belts contour) to 100, 1000 m2 and locality.

取樣方法

The database includes part of data collected in 2012-2014 for the preparation of PhD thesis on the topic Shelterbelts as reserves of diversity of vascular plants (Tracheophyta) and birds (Aves) in the Northern Steppe of the Right Bank of Ukraine prepared in SI Institute for Evolutionary Ecology of NAS of Ukraine during 2012-2016, and defended in Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Kyiv, 2017. The thesis is devoted to the analysis of species diversity structure and α–, β– and γ–diversity of vascular plants (Tracheophyta) and birds (Aves) in different types of shelterbelts in the Northern Steppe of the Right Bank of Ukraine and determination of shelterbelts potential as biodiversity reserves. The work has been carried out on the example of shelterbelts network of the Voznesenskyy district of Mykolayiv region, which is characterized by the prevalence of dense vegetation of thick–open design, mixed species composition, heterogeneous structure that creates a variety of conditions for the existence of plants and birds Richness of plant species of some recorded routes (α–level) ranges from 73 to 131 species and on average amounts to 94. It is weakly related to the length and width of belts, the number of rows of trees and forest stands tiers and depends on the culture phytocenosis lifetime. Аn abundance of plants under the canopy increases with the intensity of direct light which penetrates the canopy vertically through the trees. Species richness is weakly associated with direct light, but it increases with the intensity of side lighting which penetrates the skirt. The variety of plants on the belts contour depends on the width of the rim, their spatial orientation and exposure, projection of the crown of the outer rows, as well as human impact. High levels of plant diversity are typical of phytocoenosis under the canopy in narrow blow–through shady shelterbelts with strong side lighting, belts with destructive stands and lit shelterbelts where synanthropes prevail in the species diversity, and steppe species prevail in terms of abundance. The low rate of plant diversity under the canopy is typical of shady dense mixed forest belts with very weak side lighting where the grass cover is dominated by synanthropes and present forest species sylvants. High diversity parameters and low levels of dominance are typical for herbaceous communities on the rim of the narrow blow–through belts with strong side lighting and an average width of the rim, of the rims affected by human activities. Low diversity rates and high dominance parameters are typical of lit belts with very wide unbroken rims; the highest species richness and the highest steppe species diversity was observed in these forest belts.

研究範圍 The data were collected in accordance with the modified Whittakers plant diversity sampling method. The shape and location of the vegetation plots was modified in accordance to the wide of shelterbelts (15-40 m) with records of the number of plants of each species. This dataset was prepared (correctly organized according to Darwin Core standards) and published with the help of the project "Preservation of data on biodiversity of Ukraine during the Russian occupation" funded by "Documenting Ukraine" initiative. The initiative is financed by the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna (https://www.iwm.at/).
