Description

This dataset is a result of practical training course organized for studets of the 1st year of the Ecology and Zoology Department of Educational and Scientific Center "Institute of Biology and Medicine", Taras Shevchenko national university of Kyiv. The course took place in the territory of Rzhyshchiv city amalgamated territorial community (CATC) in the vicinity of "Hlyboki Balyky" eco-station. The main task of the course was the creation of the dataset by the students with the help of iNaturalist web site and mobile app (used for species identification). The dataset was created by the students (authors) according to Darwin Core standards. It is also an addition to the general monitoring studies of biodiversity of Rzhyshchiv CATC organized in 2020.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 138 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Versions

The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Sampling Methods

The visual registrations of fauna and flora representatives were made during route trips in the vicinity of "Hlyboki Balyky" eco-station using smartphones. The photos were uploaded to iNaturalist web site using iNaturalist app. All observations were agthered under a small project called: Study of the flora and fauna of the territory of Rzhyshchiv ITC by means of visual observations (https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/rzhyshchiv-2022). After a week the species identification was done partially by the students on their own or by external volunteer experts on iNaturalist. After that the dataset was downloaded from iNaturalist and organized accroding to Darwin Core standards. It should be noted that when uploading the observation to iNaturalist, all of them obtained "All Rights Reserved" label, which means that these registration point will not be uploaded to GBIF from iNaturalis automatically. This will help avoiding duplicating of the points. This dataset was prepared (correctly organized according to Darwin Core standards) and published with the help of the project "Preservation of data on biodiversity of Ukraine during the Russian occupation" funded by "Documenting Ukraine" initiative. The initiative is financed by the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna (https://www.iwm.at/).

Study Extent The dataset is a result of training of young scientists (students of the 1st year) aimed on tudying of modern approached to biodiversity registration and data sharing.
Quality Control The authors are fully responsible for the quality of data provided within the dataset.

Method step description:

  1. Visual observation of fauna and flora with subsequent photo-registration of records.
  2. Uploading of the photos to iNaturalist resource through the relevant mobile app.
  3. Georeferencing.
  4. Species identification according to iNaturalist resource and the active participation of experts on this web site.
  5. Creating of dataset according to Darwin Core standards.
