Description
The dataset includes biodata about specimens of the Crabronidae and Sphecidae families held in the fund collections of the I.I. Schmalhausen Institute of Zoology NAS of Ukraine. The samples were collected on the CIS countries territory (republics of the former USSR) chronologically covers 1905 to 2007. Samples Crabronidae and Sphecidae families were collected during a number of expeditions and excursions in various habitat types both natural and anthropogenic of almost all geographic and administrative regions of Ukraine and other countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, China. The data set is based on the collection of researchers: Voblenko A., Nesterov М., Korovin, Kistjakovsky, Barteniev, Osychnyuk, Danilevsky, Leley, Aleksandrovsky, Karawajew, Sheshurak, Isakov, Boborykin, Kolmaz, Paramonov, С. Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 1,070 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Study Area Description | The study area focuses on the biodata mobilization of preserved specimens from fund collections of I.I. Schmalhausen Institute of Zoology NAS of Ukraine. The taxonomic range covers 3 orders and 22 insect families: Lepidoptera (Tortricidae), Diptera (Sciaridae, Syrphidae), and Hymenoptera (Crabronidae, Sphecidae, Scoliidae, Pompilidae, Vespidae, Chrysididae, Formicidae, Ichneumonidae, Braconidae, Cynipidae, Eurytomidae, Torymidae, Ormyridae, Pteromalidae, Aphelinidae, Eulophidae, Trichogrammatidae, Encyrtidae, Scelionidae). |
Sampling Methods
There is no information on methods of material collection and identification of species. Biotopes for most species are not specified. For some specimens, the following biotopes were indicated: steppe, forest-steppe, mountains, sands, gardens, forest, forest edges, river and lake valleys, sea coasts, xerophilic meadows, ravines, anthropogenic landscapes. The material was collected in a number of expeditions and excursions carried out during the field seasons of the years 1905 - 2007. During preparation in the laboratory, the Collected insects were pinned, fixed, dried and labeled. For identification, specimens were studied with MBS-9 microscopes. All of the material is kept in the funds of I.I. Schmalhausen Institute of Zoology NAS of Ukraine, Kyiv (SIZK) as a part Crabronidae, Sphecidae collection.
Study Extent | The dataset contains the biodata of Crabronidae and Sphecidae collection is kept in the funds of I.I. Schmalhausen Institute of Zoology NAS of Ukraine (SIZK_ Hymenoptera). The family Crabronidae (864 specimens) is represented by 99 species and two subspecies from 18 genera. The Sphecidae family (206 specimens) is represented by 23 species from 6 genera. All specimens are pinned, fixed and dried. Each specimen is accompanied by labels. Crabronidae and Sphecidae SIZK collection covers almost the whole territory of Ukraine and on the territory of the CIS countries (republics of the former USSR). Сollection covers habitat types both natural and anthropogenic. |
