Descrição

The dataset includes the biodata of the Chalcidoidea (Eurytomidae, Torymidae, Ormyridae) specimens held in the fund collections of the I.I. Schmalhausen Institute of Zoology NAS of Ukraine. All the specimens were collected in different regions Ukraine from 1899 to 2017 and pinned. The collection of Eurytomidae, Torymidae, Ormyridae is formed from the material collected during a number of expeditions in various natural habitat types in natural regions of Ukraine (steppe, forestry-steppe region, forest, mountains, semi-aquatic habitats). Identification of all species in the dataset was verified by comparison with the voucher specimens (both type and non-type) and confirmed by the leading taxonomists of different families of Chalcidoidea.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Dados Sobre o Projeto

BioDATA grant for data mobilization including digitization, data quality assurance, data preparation, and publication of collection specimen and other species data from Ukraine to GBIF. Dataset preparation was supported within the project "Biodata mobilization of entomological collections of the I. I. Schmalhausen Institute of Zoology of NAS of Ukraine". More details on the grant program here (https://www.nhm.uio.no/english/research/projects/biodata/activities/data-mobilization-call-ukraine.html).

Título Biodata mobilization of entomological collections of the I. I. Schmalhausen Institute of Zoology of NAS of Ukraine
Identificador Cepa-LT-2017/10049
Financiamento BioDATA partners, NLBIF, GBIF Norway, and the UiO Natural History Museum
Descrição da Área de Estudo The study area focuses on the biodata mobilization of preserved specimens from fund collections of I.I. Schmalhausen Institute of Zoology NAS of Ukraine. The taxonomic range covers 3 orders and 22 insect families: Lepidoptera (Tortricidae), Diptera (Sciaridae, Syrphidae), and Hymenoptera (Crabronidae, Sphecidae, Scoliidae, Pompilidae, Vespidae, Chrysididae, Formicidae, Ichneumonidae, Braconidae, Cynipidae, Eurytomidae, Torymidae, Ormyridae, Pteromalidae, Aphelinidae, Eulophidae, Trichogrammatidae, Encyrtidae, Scelionidae).

Métodos de Amostragem

Chalcid wasps (Chalcidoidea) are small size of body (mostly length of imago from 0,3 mm to 6,0 mm without ovipositor length). Their larvae usually are developing as ecto- or endoparasitoids, koino- or idiobionts, gregarious or solitary parasitoids, and in some cases, larvae are phytophagous in seeds, fruits, stems, leaves and galls of different plants. Chalcid wasps can be found in all terrestrial habitat types, including forests, shrubs, forestry-steppe, and steppe landscapes, as well as near semi-aquatic and even aquatic habitats. The material was collected in a number of expeditions carried out during the field seasons of the years 1899–2017 by many entomologists. Adults of chalcid wasps were collected with a sweeping net, Malaise and Moericke traps. Collected in traps parasitoids are stored in 2.0-50.0 ml vials containing 96 % ethanol. During preparation in the laboratory, the specimens were dried and then pinned directly or glued on paper triangles with further pinning. Extensive material of chalcid wasps was received by the method of individual rearing from host insects and host plants. For identification, specimens were studied with MBS-10 and Leica MS microscopes. All of the material is kept in the funds of I.I. Schmalhausen Institute of Zoology NAS of Ukraine, Kyiv (SIZK) as a part of Hymenoptera collection containing the specimens collected in all parts of the world.

Área de Estudo The dataset contains the biodata of the superfamily Chalcidoidea (Hymenoptera: Eurytomidae, Torymidae, Ormyridae) collection that is kept in the funds of I.I. Schmalhausen Institute of Zoology NAS of Ukraine (SIZK_Eurytomidae, Torymidae, Ormyridae). All specimens in the dataset are pinned imago (adults). Collection of SIZK_Eurytomidae, Torymidae, Ormyridae covers the territory of Western Ukraine (Carpathian Mountains), Northern and Central Ukraine, Eastern and Southern Ukraine), including various natural reservations in forestry, forest-steppe and steppe natural regions of Ukraine. Identification of all species in the dataset was verified by comparison with the voucher specimens (both type and non-type) and confirmed by the leading taxonomists on different families of Chalcidoidea.
Controle de Qualidade We were using the OpenRefine (https://openrefine.org/) for checking the data quality and GBIF species matching tool (https://www.gbif.org/tools/species-lookup) for the taxonomic checking opensource software.

Descrição dos passos do método:

  1. Selection of the sites
  2. Collection of material in the field
  3. Specimen mounting
  4. Specimen identification
  5. Cataloging identified specimens and dataset preparation
  6. Data checking and cleaning
  7. Publication biodata on the GBIF
