Description
The database includes information on the observations of burrows of greater mole-rats (Spalax microphthalmus) in habitats E1.2 and E1.13 within Luhansk region (Ukraine) according to the results of analysis of Google satellite images.
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 2,963 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Sampling Methods
As a result of the analysis of satellite images of the Google Earth service, the information about the distribution of Spalax microphthalmus burrows within the habitats of type E1.2 and E1.13 (the vast majority of the population) was obtained.
Study Extent | A study of the spatial location of Spalax microphthalmus burrows in the Luhansk region during field trips from 2007 to 2020 showed that in the steppe habitats of type E1.2 and especially E1.13 Spalax microphthalmus are easily identified in high-precision Google satellite images. Emissions around the burrows, consisting mainly of crystalline chalk, stand out well against the general background of the habitat. The methodology was verified in Svativskyj, Starobilskyj and Novopskovskyj districts of Luhansk region in 2020 with the participation of our colleague Brian Milakovsky. |

Method step description:
- 1. The data set is based on Google satellite images from 2019.
- 2. Coordinates were obtained from to the places, where emissions around the burrows, consisting mainly of crystalline chalk, stand out well against the general background of the habitat.
