Descrição

This dataset contains data on the distribution of rare, relict, and taxa occurring on limits of their natural range in the Ukrainian Carpathians and adjacent territories. It also contains data on the distribution of plant taxa from the problematic and voluminous genera occurring in the Ukrainian Carpathians and other parts of Ukraine. Such genera are Rosa, Alchemilla, Hieracium, Taraxacum, Pilosella, Crepis, Leontodon, Senecio, Centaurea, Cirsium, Dianthus, Euphorbia, Euphrasia, Galium, Viola, Myosotis, Veronica, Festuca, and Poa. The data represented in this dataset are parsed from the specimens hosted at the herbarium of the State Museum of Natural History of the NAS of Ukraine (LWS).

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Dados Sobre o Projeto

BioDATA grant for data mobilization including digitization, data quality assurance, data preparation, and publication of collection specimen and other species data from Ukraine to GBIF. Dataset preparation was supported within the project "Mobilization of data on rare and relict species of vascular plants distributed in the Ukrainian Carpathians from the LWS herbarium". More details on the grant program here (https://www.nhm.uio.no/english/research/projects/biodata/activities/data-mobilization-call-ukraine.html).

Título BioDATA Ukraine data mobilization grant program 2022
Identificador Cepa-LT-2017/10049
Financiamento BioDATA partners, NLBIF, GBIF Norway, and the UiO Natural History Museum
Descrição da Área de Estudo The study mostly covered Ukrainian Carpathians and adjacent territories
Descrição do Design The data were harvested from the herbarium specimens deposited at the herbarium of the State Museum of Natural History of the NAS of Ukraine (LWS) using the routine transcription of handwritten and typewritten labels and mapping the localities.

O pessoal envolvido no projeto:

Métodos de Amostragem

The specimens of vascular plants deposited at the herbarium LWS were selected using the preliminary created nomenclatural checklist. After that, the photos of their labels were made and data from these photos were databased.

Área de Estudo The study mainly covered the plants occurring in the Ukrainian Carpathians but also involved species and intraspecific taxa represented in other parts of Ukraine, including Crimea. Analyzed herbarium specimens were collected between 1829-2021 and currently are hosted at the LWS herbarium of the State Museum of Natural History of the NAS of Ukraine. The study has been realized during 2023.
Controle de Qualidade The data were checked manually using MS Excel and then additionally checked using OpenRefine software

Descrição dos passos do método:

  1. Initially, we created the nomenclatural checklist containing 530 species and infraspecific plant taxa listed in the Red Book of Ukraine, IUCN Red List, mentioned as relict or occurring in Ukraine in the limit of their natural range. After that, this checklist was cross-checked and verified using the POWO and Plants of the World databases and supported by current taxonomy. After that herbarium herbarium specimens of the LWS were selected using this checklist (including valid names and synonyms), and their labels were photo-captured. The data from captured labels were databased, cleaned and then georeferenced using OpenStreetMap. Later the initial database was completed with the data on the distribution of taxa from the problematic and voluminous genera occurring in the Ukrainian Carpathians and the rest of Ukraine. This taxa were not limited to the Ukrainian Carpathians because due to their problematic taxonomy, it is complicated to estimate their range limits and spatial distribution. But they still represent a special interest in biogeographical investigations.
