Description
The dataset contains information on the distribution of plant and animal species listed in the Red Data Book of Ukraine and Resolution 6 of the Bern Convention. The database contains species from the 11 taxonomic groups. The information in the dataset was collected on the territory of 11 protected areas: Cheremosky, Verkhovynsky, Vizhnytsky, Hutsulshchyna, Carpathian, Synevyr, Skolivski Beskydy, Uzhansky, Zacharovanyi Krai National Nature Parks and Gorgany Natural Reserve, all located in the Ukrainian Carpathians, as well as Yavorivsky National Nature Park, located in the Roztochya region. Some points are located in areas adjacent to these protected areas, including areas proposed for expansion. The dataset contains information mainly from archival sources, such as the Chronicles of Nature of National Nature Parks and Natural Reserves as well as data from the authors' field research.
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 7,347 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Identifier | SNPA |
Funding | The project was implemented within the framework of the German Financial Cooperation (FC), funded by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the German State Development Bank KfW, and Conservation of Highly Valuable Primeval and Old Growth Forests in Selected National Parks of the Ukrainian Carpathians (IKI Project), part of the International Climate Change Programme. |

Sampling Methods
The data were collected to produce thematic maps of rare flora and fauna distribution as part of the preparation of territory organization projects (management plans). For the field survey data, the coordinates were determined directly in the field using GPS navigators or appropriate mobile applications. For archival data, the coordinates were determined approximately using the Google Earth program or Google maps (WGS 84 system).
Study Extent | The data were collected mainly by experts from the Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS) in cooperation with protected areas staff within the framework of the projects Support for Nature Protected Areas (SNPA Project), implemented within the framework of the German Financial Cooperation (FC), funded by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the German State Development Bank KfW, and Conservation of Highly Valuable Primeval and Old Growth Forests in Selected National Parks of the Ukrainian Carpathians (IKI Project), part of the International Climate Change Programme. The data colelcted covers the territory of 11 big objects of nature reserve fund of Ukraine situated within the Carpathian mountains on the territory of Lviv, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi administrative regions of Ukraine. The data was collected from the field as well as from previousely published sources of so-called "grey literature" and personal observations of the experts made in previous years. Also some parts of the dataset contain information mainly from archival sources, such as the Chronicles of Nature of National Nature Parks and Natural Reserves (up to 1900s). |
---|---|
Quality Control | Data arrangement and verification was carried out in cooperation of FZS experts with experts from the Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group (UNCG). |
Method step description:
- Conducting of field research.
- Species identification.
- Verification of data.
- Excluding of data on biodiversity records from other resources (Chronicles of Nature of National Nature Parks and Natural Reserves).
- Including of data from previouse years of research of the scientists.
- Georeferencing.
- Organising of the dataset according to the Darwin Core standards.
