Description

The dataset contains materials of the herbarium of the Falz-Fein Biosphere Reserve “Askania Nova” of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (ASCN), collected on the territory of the reserve in the period 1947–1993 (main stock). Collectors, that contributed the records of this period to the herbarium: V. Atamanyuk, N. Bachkovska, E. Vedenkov, V. Vodopyanova, K. Golovanova, O. Dubovik, L. Yelonova, S. Kapitonenko, E. Korotkova, A. Krasnova, V. Poniatovska, M. Reshchikov, T. Serebryakova, T. Yakymenko and others. The dataset includes information only on that part of the herbarium fund for which the original labels allowed to determine the approximate coordinates of the collection site and to establish the accuracy of this determination in meters. It is important to note that this data set was created at a time when the territory of the Askania-Nova Biosphere Reserve is under occupation by Russian army and the herbarium itself is also located in the occupied territory without the possibility of its evacuation to safe regions of Ukraine. Thus, the dataset is a certain insurance for the information collected in it by researchers during the specified 47-year period.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 6,216 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Versions

The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Study Extent The dataset was created after excluding data from already published literature resources and the original herbarium of the reserve. This dataset was prepared (correctly organized according to Darwin Core standards) and published with the help of the project "Preservation of data on biodiversity of Ukraine during the Russian occupation" funded by "Documenting Ukraine" initiative. The initiative is financed by the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna (https://www.iwm.at/).
Quality Control The authors are fully responsible for the quality of data provided within the dataset.

Method step description:

  1. Examining of the information provided within the resource and on the herbarium samples.
  2. Georeferencing.
  3. Organizing of the dataset according to Darwin Core requirements.
