Description

The dataset contains data on the marking of 23 species of birds, obtained as a result of their capture in live traps of portable and stationary types, followed by ringing and release into natural conditions.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 2,323 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Sampling Methods

Catches of birds are listed in chronological order. A total of 2,323 individuals of 23 species were caught and observed in the process of using the technique of catching birds with a cone live trap. The database contains data on the marking of birds, obtained as a result of their capture in live traps of portable and stationary types, followed by ringing and release into natural conditions.

Study Extent The materials were collected in 2010-2021 within the Biosphere Reserve "Askania-Nova" named after F.E. Falz-Fein, National Academy of Sciences during the performance of scientific research by the employees of the reserve and under cooperation agreements with the Ukrainian Bird Ringing Center of the I. I. Schmalhausen Institute of Zoology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the National Scientific Center "Institute of Experimental and Clinical Veterinary Medicine" of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. We express our gratitude to the employees of the reserve who participated in the work of catching birds - Chegorka P.P. and Litvintsova Y.M., - as well as great respect to scientists who are no longer with us - Zubko V.M. and Zinevych M.O. We thank the employees of the Interdepartmental Azov-Black Sea Ornithological Station of the Melitopol State Pedagogical University and the I. I. Schmalhausen Institute of Zoology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine - R.M. Chernichno and Andryushchenko Yu.O. for helping to set up a stationary live trap for waterfowl with financial support from Linnéuniversitetet (LNU), Kalmar, Sweden.
Quality Control The authors of the dataset are fully responsible for the quality of data provided within the dataset.

Method step description:

  1. Placing of traps in the areas of birds' aggregation.
  2. Species identification.
  3. Ringing of birds with special rings with subsequent noting al lthe information (including the ring number) in a special field ringing journal.
  4. Georeferencing.
  5. Organising of the dataset according to the Darwin Core standards.
