Description
As part of the environmental monitoring conducted by the company, a study was carried out to assess the impact of the gas production department "Lvivhazvydobuvannia" 's activities on the flora and fauna of selected sites in the Lviv region during the spring period of 2025.
The resulting dataset includes records of identified species of flora, fauna, and fungi within the surveyed areas. These data were used to analyze biodiversity patterns and to develop recommendations aimed at mitigating anthropogenic pressure on the region’s natural ecosystems.
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 1,031 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Sampling Methods
Field investigations were carried out during the spring of 2025 following standardized biodiversity assessment protocols. Wherever possible, species of animals, fungi, lichens, and plants were recorded through direct visual observation without disturbing or removing them from their natural habitats. Photographic documentation was used whenever feasible to support species identification. Birds were identified visually and acoustically. Acoustic identification was assisted by the Merlin Bird ID app. Some animal occurrences were recorded based on indirect signs of presence, such as droppings, feathers, footprints, shells, or exoskeleton remains. In certain cases, specimens were collected for detailed laboratory analysis. Insects and spiders were collected manually and with the use of a sweeping net. Spiders and selected insect specimens were preserved in 70% ethanol for further examination. Soil and leaf litter samples were taken using a garden shovel. Larger invertebrates were hand-picked against a white background. Soil samples were transported to the laboratory and examined under a microscope to study small invertebrates.

Quality Control | Species mapping was performed using QGIS software (version 3.10) with the WGS 84 coordinate system (EPSG:4326) and UTF-8 encoding. Most coordinates were recorded using a smartphone's built-in GPS; some were manually placed using OpenTopoMap. Habitat classification followed the Bern Convention standards and was based on the Catalogue of Tree Microhabitats by Kraus et al. (2016, Integrate+ Technical Paper, 16 pages). Taxonomic names were verified using iNaturalist suggestions, which reflect current scientific taxonomy based on recent literature. Species identification: Beetles were identified using the up-to-date species keys available on coleonet.de. Ground beetles (Carabidae) were identified using Puchkov A.V.'s monograph Ground-beetles (Coleoptera, Carabidae) of transformed cenoses of Ukraine (Kyiv, 2018, 448 p., doi: 10.15421/511802), which is particularly suitable for Ukrainian species. |
