Description
The dataset contains data on fish species in recreational fishing catches, obtained during ichthyological studies in the upper and middle parts of the Kakhovka reservoir (within the Zaporizhia region). The dataset contains data on the records of 26 fish species registered during the study of catches in the specified territory, as well as information on the number of individuals, their biomass and the fishing effort that was spent on their catch (category and number of fishing gear, duration of fishing at the time of the study). The dataset provides important reptrospective data on distribution of fish species in past years which is preserved and will be useful for studying of consequences of Kakhovka dam destruction by russian military forces in 2023 for nature.
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 1,679 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Sampling Methods
The records are presented in chronological order of description. The research was carried out using the method of direct interviews with fishermen at the fishing sites, as well as biological analysis of the fish catches available to them at the time of the interview, using visual observation, portable devices for measuring mass, length and photo fixation. Species identification was carried out visually. The material was collected during 97 field trips, including during comprehensive ichthyological studies at the Kakhovka Reservoir.
Study Extent | The dataset covers the water area of the upper and middle parts of the Kakhovka reservoir within the Zaporizhia region: from the Dniprovska HPP dam (Zaporizhzhya city) to the middle and lower parts of now former area of the reservoir. The data from recreational fisheries catches registered within the period from 2008 to 2014 are shown in the dataset. We express our gratitude to the Kyiv Fish Protection Patrol for technical support and assistance in conducting the research. We are sincerely grateful to the NGO "Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group" for financial support. We thank the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the opportunity to conduct scientific research in wartime! |

Quality Control | Author is fully responsible for the quality of data provided within the dataset. Also the species are well-identified visually, giving very high reliability level when the information was obtained from the third parties. |
Method step description:
- Conducting of field trips to study sites.
- Conducting interviews with local fishermen.
