Description

The list of the vascular plants of the projected landscape reserve «Lesovyi Kanyon» includes 222 species. The nomenclature of the vascular plants in dataset follows “Nomenclatural Checklist of vascular plants of Ukraine” (Mosyakin & Fedoronchuk 1999).

Data Records

The data in this checklist resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 222 records.

1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.

Taxon (core)
222
Occurrence
222

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Sampling Methods

Recording and identification of vascular plants with using road-field methods.

Study Extent In this area there are 3 groups of beams, which differ in age and are obviously at different stages of development. The oldest ravines (Tomina and Shyroka ravines) have slope (up to 15°). These ravines are highly anthropogenically transformed, at the bottom of them are the villages, and the other part of the ravines is almost completely ploughed. The middle-aged ravines (Sofiyivska, or Chervona and Oleksandrivska) are of medium size, the slopes (a significant part of them has a slope of 20-40°). The third group - four youngest ravines are located of the territory in the vicinity of the villages of Shyroka Balka and Stanislav.
Quality Control The identification of vascular plant species was held with morphological methods at the field and in the Kherson State University Laboratory of Plant Ecology and Environmental Protection. Coordinates of records were checked using Google Earth service. Data cleaning using OpenRefine.

Method step description:

  1. Field sampling
  2. Recording and identification of vascular plants
  3. Completing of cheklist of vascular plant
  4. Data post-processing according to the Darwin Core standards
  5. Data checking and cleaning in OpenRefine
