Description
The dataset contains 449 lichen and lichenicolous fungi observations from the F.E. Faltz-Fein Biosphere Reserve “Askania-Nova”. It is based on own field data and herbarium specimens collected between 1991 and 2020. The results of the author's research in the Biosphere Reserve “Askania-Nova” have been published in several papers (e.g. Ходосовцев, 1999, 2008; Ходосовцев, Ходосовцева, 2014, Ходосовцев, Дармостук, 2017; Ходосовцев та ін, 2017, 2021, Ходосовцев, Шаповал, 2024; Darmostuk et al., 2021: Khodosovtsev, Darmostuk, 2020), but the species lists or records (except for a few taxa) were without specific localities and geopositions within the territory. A few old herbarium collections from Askania-Nova in 1924 and 1931 without georeference data in KW were recently studied and corrected (Khodosovtsev, Shapoval, 2024). Only a few data such as Caloplaca stillicidiorum, Lecania ephedrae, L. koerberiana (Окснер, 1993), Ramalina dilacerata (Кондратюк, Навроцька, 1992), Diplotomma alboatrum (Окснер, 2010) were not found in the field during the visit to Askania-Nova and in the herbarium (KW-L). The literature sources for these species are also included in the dataset. The list of species was mainly based on the recent publication (Ходосовцев, Шаповал, 2024), where the history of lichen research during 100 years is presented. The total list in the dataset included 143 species of lichens and lichenicolous fungi.
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 449 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Project Data
The project is aimed on collecting, digitalization and preservation of data on biodiversity records in Ukraine.
Title | Preservation of Scientific Heritage of Nature Reserves and National Parks Affected by the War |
---|---|
Identifier | 09-12-2024 |
Funding | The project was implemented by the Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group with the support of the Goethe-Institut Ukraine, part of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ukraine. |
Sampling Methods
The authors of the dataset are fully responsible for the quality of data provided within the dataset.
Study Extent | Dataset comprises data of the personal field observations and own herbarium collections, revised published data as well as and few herbarium collection (KHER, KW-L). This dataset was prepared (correctly organized according to Darwin Core standards. We are sincerely grateful to the NGO "Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group" for financial support. We thank the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the opportunity to conduct scientific research in wartime. |

Quality Control | Some specimens of the vascular plants and almost all lichens and mosses were collected as herbarium for determination and verification after the fieldwork. Then we used GBIF Backbone Taxonomy (GBIF species matching tool: https://www.gbif.org/tools/species-lookup) for the taxonomic check and implemented minor corrections of species names regarding misprints and problematic taxa to avoid misinterpretation. We additionally checked and verified the data using OpenRefine (https://openrefine.org/), and QGIS 3.22 (https://qgis.org) for quality control. |
Method step description:
- Identification of species was mainly carried out by lens in nature (human observation), but few herbarium specimens were checked by microscope technique in KHER and KW (Ukraine).
- Data from literature and herbarium data were included with own interpretation of the geoposition.
- Identification of the localities and georeference of the records using OSM.
- Organization of the dataset according to the Darwin Core standards.
