Description
The dataset contains data on fish species in recreational fisheries catches, obtained during ichthyological studies in the middle and upper parts of the Kakhovka Reservoir (Zaporizhzhya Region). The dataset contains data on the findings of 16 fish species registered during the study of catches in the specified area, as well as information on the number of individuals, their biomass and the fishing effort spent on their catch (category and number of fishing gear, duration of fishing at the time of the study).
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 537 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Sampling Methods
The records are presented in chronological order of description. The research was carried out using the method of direct interviews with fishermen at the fishing sites, as well as biological analysis of the fish catches available to them at the time of the interview, using visual observation, portable devices for measuring mass, length and photo fixation. Species identification was carried out visually. The material was collected during 45 field trips, including during comprehensive ichthyological studies at the Kakhovka Reservoir.
Study Extent | The dataset covers the water area of the upper and middle parts of the Kakhovka reservoir within the Zaporizhia region: from the Dniprovska HPP dam (Zaporizhzhya city) to the city of Energodar (Vasyliv district, Zaporizhia region). The data from recreational fisheries catches before (2020-2023) and after (2023-2024) destruction of Kakhovka dam. We express our gratitude to the Kyiv Fish Protection Patrol for technical support and assistance in conducting the research. We are sincerely grateful to the NGO "Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group" for financial support. We thank the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the opportunity to conduct scientific research in wartime! |
