Description

The dataset includes 727 records of 18 species of animals (reptiles and amphibians not listed in the Red Data Book of Ukraine) recorded on the territory of the Medobory Nature Reserve from 1994 to 2023. Information about these records is also kept in the Annals of Nature of the reserve.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 727 records.

The dataset covers the territory of Medobory Nature Reserve and the nearest surrounding areas within Tovtry strand (Chortkiv and Ternopil districts of Ternopil region, Ukraine) and 1 point from Khmel'nyts'kyi region.

Temporal Coverage

Sampling Methods

The species of animals were identified visually during regular route records and observations, followed by in-camera processing in accordance with the Nature Chronicle Program for nature reserves and national natural parks (https://zakon.rada.gov.ua/rada/show/v465_737-02#n12 ). The detected places are geolocated using GPS devices and freely available Google Earth and the online service www.google.com.ua/maps/.

Study Extent The research was conducted during 1994-2023 on the territory of the Medobory Nature Neserve and its nearest vicinities (within the Tovtry range and adjacent territories). Data on the occurrence of animals were collected, mainly, by the authors of the records. Some of the records were recorded by scientists of the reserve, employees of the state security service and residents of nearby settlements.
Quality Control The author is fully responsible for the quality of data provided within the dataset.

Method step description:

  1. Conducting of field research (route counts, regular field expeditions and collecting data from scientists and local residents).
  2. Visual registration of the species for better identification.
  3. Collecting of the obtained data in the Annals of Nature of the reserve.
  4. Georeferencing.
  5. Organizing of the dataset according or to Darwin Core requirements.
