Description

The dataset contains recent registrations of grey dwarf hamster (Nothocricetulus migratorius) in Southern Ukraine, that were collected by authors in 2019-2021.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 87 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Sampling Methods

Most of dwarf hamsters were captured using box (Longworth | Sherman | Schipanov) or pitfall live traps. Traps in each locality were exposed for 1-4 nights. All animals were marked and released. Recaptures were recorded as well. Some specimens were found dead (causes include poisoning from pesticides). Coordinates were recorded with GPS Garmin eTrex30x using both GPS and GLONASS. Accuracy in most cases was app. 3-5m.

Study Extent The dataset contains recent Nothocricetulus migratorius registrations in Southern Ukraine (Odesa, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions) in 2019-2021.
Quality Control The authors are fully responsible for the quality of data provided within the dataset.

Method step description:

  1. Conducting field expeditions.
  2. Installation and subsequent checking of traps.
  3. Species identification and marking of captured specimens.
  4. Georeferencing using gps-navigator.
