Description

The dataset contains data on the findings of 16 species of fish and 1 species of crayfish, registered during the detection of violations of fishing rules in the specified territory, as well as information on the number of individuals, their biomass, type and parameters of fishing gear.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 363 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Project Data

The project is aimed on collecting, digitalization and preservation of data on biodiversity records in Ukraine.

Title Preservation of Scientific Heritage of Nature Reserves and National Parks Affected by the War
Identifier 09-12-2024
Funding The project was implemented by the Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group with the support of the Goethe-Institut Ukraine, part of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ukraine.

The personnel involved in the project:

Olexiy Vasyliuk

Sampling Methods

The records are listed in chronological order of description. The research was carried out through violation protocols. Fish and crustaceans were removed with gillnets, fishing traps – fyke nets, fishing rods, electric fishing devices, and by hand (crawfishing by hand). Species identification was carried out visually by officials who participated in the detection and recording of the violation.

Study Extent The dataset represents records of fish individuals caught during field studies in 2020-2023 period. The studied territory covers the water areas of the water areas of Kakhovka and Zaporizhia (Dnipro) reservoirs. We express our gratitude to the Zaporizhia Fish Protection Patrol for technical support and assistance in conducting the study. We are sincerely grateful to the NGO "Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group" for financial support. We thank the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the opportunity to conduct scientific research in wartime!
Quality Control Author is fully responsible for the quality of data provided within the dataset. Also the species are well-identified visually, giving very high reliability level when the information was obtained from the third parties.

Method step description:

  1. Conducting of field trips to study sites.
  2. Performing the studies of poaching gears checks based on the accessible violation protocols.
  3. Species identification (by visual signs).
  4. Georeferencing.
  5. Organising of the dataset according to the Darwin Core standards.
