Description
The dataset contains data on fish species in recreational catches. The study covered the section of the Dnieper River below the Dnieper Hydro Power Plant (HPP) dam, which corresponded to the upper part of the Kakhovka reservoir (before its destruction by the russian federation), within the Zaporizhia district of the Zaporizhia region. The dataset consists of records of 12 fish species registered during the study of catches in the specified area, as well as information on the number of individuals, their biomass and the fishing effort spent on their catch (category and number of fishing gear, duration of fishing at the time of the interviewing of local fishermen).
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 279 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Sampling Methods
The records are presented in chronological order of description. The study was conducted using the method of direct interviews with fishermen at the fishing site, as well as biological analysis of fish catches available to them at the time of the interview, using visual observation, portable devices for measuring mass, length and photo fixation. Species identification was carried out visually. The material was collected during 223 random interviews, which were evenly distributed throughout the study period. During the specified study period, recreational fishing was carried out exclusively from the shore, since fishing using boats was prohibited.
Study Extent | The dataset covers the territory of the water area of the Dnipro River below the Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Plant dam within the Zaporizhia district of the Zaporizhia region: from the Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Plant dam (Zaporizhzhya city) along the right bank to the mouth of the Kokan River in the village of Bilenke; along the left bank to the southern edge of the village of Kushugum. We express our gratitude to the Zaporizhia Fish Protection Patrol for technical support and assistance in conducting the research. We are sincerely grateful to the NGO "Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group" for financial support. We thank the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the opportunity to conduct scientific research in wartime! |
