Description

The data base includes reports of findings of mammals, birds, reptiles, and fish of the area of Polissya Nature Reserve (Selezivske, Kopyschanske and Perganske forestries), in the protected area of the Nature Reserve and in the neighborhood.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 2,085 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Sampling Methods

For the study of mites (Acari, Oribatida) Shevchenko O. S. and Kobzar L. I. took samples at two research sites in Kopyschanske forestry (10 samples of litter and soil each) and at five research sites in Selezivske forestry (litter samples). To study beetles (Coleoptera, Carabidae) Kobzar L. I. used soil traps (pitfall traps) on 11 test sites.

Study Extent The data presented in dataset was collected on the territory of Poissya Nature Reserve by the staff of the reserve, foresters and professional scientists.
Quality Control Authors of the dataset are fully responsible for the correctness of species identifications, information on organisms' quantity and georeferencing. Minor issues in organizing of the dataset were corrected by Oleksii Marushchak.

Method step description:

  1. Findings of mammals, birds, reptiles and fish were carried out by foresters of the Reserve during the entire specified time interval. Foresters collected data during forest protection trips on routes (bypasses) that run throughout the reserve. Mostly these outings took place in winter, spring and autumn. The work was carried out at the request and with the support of the director of the Reserve, Zhyla S. M.
  2. Data on mites (Acari, Oribatida) were collected by Shevchenko O. S. and Kobzar L. I. in the area of Selezivske and Kopyschanske forestries in 16.07.2012 and 04-05.07.2016.
  3. Data on insects (Coleoptera, Carabidae) were collected by Kobzar L. I. in the area of Selezivske forestry in May to October, 2011-2012 and in August 2014 and 2015.
  4. Mites (Acari, Oribatida) were extracted by Shevchenko O. S. in Berlese funnels into 70% ethanol solution and mounted on permanent slides in Hoyer's liquid. The beetles (Coleoptera, Carabidae) were collected by Kobzar L. I. in soil traps, dried or fixed in ethanol. The beetles were determined by Kirichenko-Babko M. B.
