Description

The database includes records of the field counts along the Protoka River (Kiev administrative region, Ukraine) made in April – May 2020. In fact river is transformed in a chain of big fishponds. All records were collected by Kostiushyn V. A. during the field studies through visual and audial registrations.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 394 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Sampling Methods

3-days point count was conducted along small river in Kiev administrative oblast at the beginning of breeding season and ending of migration season. Data was collected by conducting point counts in the basin small river Protoka, moving by car between observation points.

Study Extent Occurrence of animals was confirmed by personal observations of birds during nesting season. This dataset was prepared and published with the help of the Olin gGmbH foundation to preserve data on the biodiversity of Ukraine obtained by the Ukrainian scientists, who were forced to leave their homeland due to the war (Russia's invasion of Ukraine). Olin gGmbH is a funding organization for environmental protection and conservation that supports environmental and sociopolitical organizations.
Quality Control Author is fully responsible for the correctness of species identifications, birds number (individuals) and georeferencing.

Method step description:

  1. Point counts and transect counts of birds in appropriate biotopes in breeding season.
  2. Georeferencing with a GPS-tracker.
  3. Organizing of the dataset according to Darwin Core standards.
