Description

In the Mykhailivska Tsilyna Nature Reserve, the author registered 1,133 specimens of 60 species of mace-bearded Lepidoptera of five families: Hesperiidae (8 species), Papilionidae (1), Pieridae (9), Nymphalidae (22), Lycaenidae (20).

Sampling Methods

The research was conducted by the author on the "historical" site of the reserve with an area of ​​202.48 hectares for 28 days in all seasons in 2003 (May 31-June 2, August 28-31, September 26-28), 2004 (April 17-19), 2006 ( April 29-May 1, June 10-12, July 1-3) and 2008 (July 9-13 and September 25). In 2006, the adults of wintering species of butterflies were also counted during two winters: February 25 and December 16. The records were mainly of two types: route (usually 2-5 km long) and on trial areas (on 0.25-0.5 ha). Bait fishing (tree sap, sweet and fermented substances) was also used.

Study Extent The material for the dataset was collected within the Mykhailivska Tsilyna Nature Reserve, which is located in the northeastern part of the Left Bank Forest-Steppe, in the Lebedyn district of the Sumy region, between the villages of Stepove, Myrne, Druzhne, Havryky, and Velyki Luky. The reserve has preserved one of the few areas of grass-cereal meadow steppe on the Left Bank of Ukraine.
