Description

The dataset consists of 2744 records of vascular plants growing on the roadside from the territory of the Left Bank of the Dnipro River in Ukraine. The records were made during preparing of geobotanical releves in the 2008-2021 period.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 2,744 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Versions

The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Project Data

“Saving Biodiversity Data in Wartime” project aims to contribute to the protection and conservation of biological diversity in Ukraine during and after the war, by collecting, digitalizing and publishing the primary biodiversity data held by Ukrainian scientists and environmentalists in war-affected territories. The project is implemented by Oleksii Marushchak, 2023 Eastern Partnership Civil Society Fellow.

Title Saving Biodiversity Data in Wartime
Funding “Saving Biodiversity Data in Wartime” project is funded by the European Union within its Eastern Partnership Civil Society Fellowship Programme.

Sampling Methods

The database of vascular plants includes 2744 records made as a result of preparation of geobotanical releves. The collection of data includes plants that were recorded in geobotanical releves of different types of vegetation: ruderal, meadow-steppe, meadow, coastal-water and forest. Descriptions were performed within the limits of the roadside of roads, field paths and forest tracks (at a distance of up to 10 m from the road). The species were identified according to the Identifier of Vascular Plants of Ukraine, Flora Europaea and agreed with the modern nomenclature (GBiF).

Study Extent The dataset consists of record made in terms of preparation of geobotanical descriptions in 2008-2021 on the territory of Left bank of Dnipro River and covers territory of Kyiv, Poltava, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Donetsk, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad administrative regions of Ukraine.
Quality Control The author is an expert phytocenologist with more than 20 years of experience, mainly with synanthropic communities and anthropogenically disturbed vegetation.

Method step description:

  1. Fixing the view on the site.
  2. Conducting the field study (by car, by foot).
  3. Georeferencing.
  4. Entering the view into the Turboweg database.
  5. Forming the database in Excel with geographic coordinates.
  6. Organizing of the dataset according to Darwin Core standards.
