Description

The dataset contains digitalized data on observations of spiders of the fauna of Ukraine, published in several issues of Proceedings of the Kharkiv Entomological Society gazette. The total amount of observations is 723. The data was excluded from the following publications: 1. Прокопенко Е. В. Пауки породного отвала шахты № 11 Куйбышевского района г. Донецка / Е. В. Прокопенко // Известия Харьковского энтомологического общества. - 1997. - Т. 5, Вып. 1. - С. 140–142. (http://nbuv.gov.ua/UJRN/Vkhet_1997_5_1_21). 2. Полчанинова Н. Ю. Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 723 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Versions

The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Sampling Methods

The authors of these data digitalized 3 articles published in the Kharkiv Entomological Society gazette. According to the data that were specified in these works, it was possible to determine the coordinates of spiders' finds using online maps (Google Earth). In these three works, it is indicated that their authors collected materials mainly with traps. Determination of individuals to the species was carried out using appropriate identifiers. In one of the digitalized works, the sex of the recorded spiders was also indicated - we added this information in the dataset. Observations in which inaccurate landmarks (for example, cities) were indicated were not taken from these articles.

Study Extent The dataset consists of 723 records of 190 species of spiders (Arachnida) obtained from the 3 publications on this group of arthropods made in Proceedings of Kharkiv Entomological Society. The records and all subsequent information on them were excluded from the text by the authors based on the descriptions.
Quality Control The determination of the recorded species of spiders was carried out by specialists who are the authors of the studies. The data were digitalized by the authors (Kostyna Anna & Zinkovskyi Artem), who already had experience in designing datasets according to Darwin Core standards for GBIF. Also, Artem Zinkovskyi has a master's degree of biology (zoologist) and a PhD student in the field of ecology.

Method step description:

  1. 3 publications were chosen, which indicated: the taxa of the observation, the date of the observation (at least a range of years) and a landmark by which the coordinates of the location of the observation can be found (village, spoil tip, ravine, small reserve).
  2. Coordinates were searched using online maps (Google Earth), and the estimated error in meters was also searched.
  3. The data was digitalized in the form of a dataset according to Darwin Core standards.
