Description
The database includes a releves of grassland vegetation of Ukraine, carried out by 66 authors over the period from 1932 to 2019. The releves are made in almost all administrative regions of Ukraine. The size of plots ranged from 0,5 to 400 m2. The nomenclature is given in accordance the species list “Russia”, which is based on a checklist of S. Cherepanov (1995) for vascular plants, M. Ignatov & O. Afonina checklist (1992) for mosses and the Lichens Identification Guides of the USSR (1971–1978)
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 247,402 records.
1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Sampling Methods
Most of the data were collected in accordance with the methodological approaches of the Braun-Blanquet school in the vegetation plots mainly in the range of 10-25 m2 with records of the full floristic composition (shoot or root presence) and cover of each species in% or abundance scales. Some of the plots (mostly 1950-1980s) were collected using the Soviet dominant approach on 100 m2 plots.
Study Extent | Phytosociological database collected for the purpose of classification of vegetation and habitats. Includes more than 10.000 relevés of grassland vegetation and related open vegetation within the administrative boundaries of Ukraine |
---|---|
Quality Control | Over the years of the database existence (created in 2008, officially registered in GIVD in 2011) there is a constant checking and polishing of data. Some of the records are confirmed by herbarium speciements and photographs. But mostly the data quality is the responsibility of the authors of the relevés. |
Method step description:
- The database is stored in the Turboweg program environment, which includes standardized species lists for different countries and regions, which makes it impossible to use unverified nomenclature, and additional checks are used when exchanging data between different databases using different species lists. Moreover, the database is part of the European Vegetation Archive (EVA), where there is also a constant check of the data quality, followed by their correction if necessary.
